Where your photo is kept
BrushWorks keeps a copy of the photo you picked in the app's storage, so it can bring your painting back the next time you open the app. The copy is deleted when you pick another photo or tap Start over in Settings.
The iOS photo picker hands the app only the one photo you choose. Saving a finished painting uses add-only access to Photos.
Why you paint the whole canvas yourself
BrushWorks is for painting by hand, so there is no one-tap conversion. That is also why the time-lapse ends with how many strokes you made and how long you painted.
Why switching photos clears the painting
Each stroke takes its color from the photo whenever the painting is redrawn. Old strokes on a new photo would show colors they never had, so the canvas is cleared. If you have painted anything, the app asks first.
Undo cannot bring it back. Save your painting before you switch photos.
The mark on saved paintings
Every painting you save carries a small BRUSH/WORKS mark in the lower right corner. Paintings are saved as PNG.
Time-lapse length
Every time-lapse is 10 seconds long at 720×1280, in a vertical 9:16 frame.
To watch the whole process, use Replay in the app. Pick 0.25×, 0.5×, 1×, 2× or 4×, and drag sideways across the canvas to jump to any point.
Internet connection
Painting, saving and time-lapses all work without an internet connection. The app has nothing to connect to.
